We advocate for improving access to the expertise of chiropractors to provide needed services across Nova Scotia within our recognized scope of practice and competencies of our health care professional members.
Chiropractors Nova Scotia supports the Action for Health plan of the Government of Nova Scotia and are actively participating in finding ways to ease the burdens on our health care system. Our members are experts in neuromusculoskeletal health and well-being and are trained primary care providers to address many key issues facing Nova Scotians.
We are here to assist in providing the care that Nova Scotians need and deserve with compassion, equality and effectiveness. Our member Chiropractors have key roles to play in pain relief and management, improving mobility, optimizing function and educating our communities on factors affecting their health and well-being. With a focus on prevention as well as management of patient challenges, Chiropractors are a key part of finding better health care solutions.
We will continue to advocate for health care improvements with Governments, Insurers, Employers, and other health care partners so that YOU get the right care, from the right professional, at the right time!
IMPROVED ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES FOR NOVA SCOTIANS
One of the key priorities of the NS Government is improving access to health care for Nova Scotians. We are here to help.
Recently, CNS was successful in working with government partners to enable direct access to general x-rays studies for chiropractic patients.
Chiropractors are trained, tested and competent to provide care in areas that are currently denied. We are ready to expand on this success in other key areas of patient care to save time and money for Nova Scotians!
- Your chiropractor knows when you need a referral to a specialist in areas like orthopedics, neurology and rheumatology. We can help avoid delays in care due to lack of physician resources or waiting times for a secondary referral.
2. Your chiropractor knows your spine. When advanced imaging, like MRI and CT, is required, we can currently only refer you to private clinics with an associated price attached. For some patients, this is not feasible. We would like an even playing field for all with direct referral to advanced imaging where it is appropriate.
3. There are conditions related to your neuromusculoskeletal health that require laboratory testing to enable a proper diagnosis. Chiropractors Nova Scotia has identified key areas which would facilitate patient care, within current scope of practice and training, to assist in better diagnosis, treatment and referral management of our patients.
MVA INSURANCE PROTOCOL IMPROVEMENTS
We believe it is critical for all Nova Scotians to have access to and financial support for science-based, regulated, and effective treatment provided by Doctors of Chiropractic in cases of injury due to motor vehicle accidents. Current processes could be improved to facilitate timely access to care without unnecessary delays and secondary approvals. This is a challenge especially acute for those without a family physician or primary care nurse practitioner.
Chiropractors Nova Scotia is committed to advocating for improved processes and policies for injured Nova Scotians to get the treatment they need. Click on the links to read our submissions:
